A silent recognition

A special "thank you" to the West Suburban Orchestra, which performed [Nov. 15] in Lemont. They started their program with a moment of silence and playing the French national anthem, recognition that civilized people everywhere are in this together. Thank you, West Suburban Orchestra.

Today's college kids

Today's college kids are just a bunch of politically correct boiled brats. They are amazing. Compared to the ’60s and ’70s when things were really, really bad. These kids couldn't handle it if they broke a fingernail today. They'd be screaming for their mommy. This is amazing. … In terms of freedom of speech, they do everything they can to repress freedom of speech.

Mixed messages

Our own defense secretary says we're at war with ISIS and they must be defeated ASAP; however, his boss and our commander in chief says that although we've had a setback in Paris, they are contained while ultimately we will defeat them sometime in the future. So who is correct?

Collection box is awkward

I have to agree with the person who complained about the new Downers Grove Sanitary District's collection box. It is very awkward and difficult to deposit your envelope because it's setback and it's hard to reach from your car.

Better uses for money

Much has already been published about how the climate has alternately warmed and cooled for thousands of years before the industrial revolution and even prior to the appearance of humanoid and human populations on earth. The climate does that and all the industrialized nations of the world forcing their industries to reduce carbon emissions have the likelihood of lowering global warming by less than one degree anyway by the year 2100. Is it worth the trillions that could otherwise be spent to ease human suffering and find disease cures and bring about international cooperation to stamp out terrorism? I think not.

Trapped in homes

The weekend weather was terrible, as everyone knows, and if you live in Lake County housing you couldn't even walk out the door or try to get your car. They never plowed, they never brought salt or anything. We were just stuck, and this was not first time and it seems terrible because there was a 24 or 48 hour notice for the storm, and I just wanted to say thank you Lake County housing for not being able to get out and get anything I needed. I hope everyone else is well.
