SUGAR GROVE – A 20-year-old Aurora man was injured Tuesday morning when he was struck from behind by another car while he was pushing his car, police said.
Sugar Grove Police Chief Pat Rollins said the injured man was pushing a 2010 Toyota Yaris in the westbound lanes between the on and off ramps of Galena Boulevard over Route 56 when he was struck about 9:30 a.m.
Police are not identifying the injured man until after his family is notified, Rollins said. The injured man was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with life-threatening injuries, Rollins said.
Galena Boulevard is two lanes in each direction, with turn lanes. The speed limit is 50 mph, Rollins said.
Jorge Espinosa, 18, of the 500 block of Wingpointe Drive, Aurora, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, which struck the Yaris driver from behind, Rollins said. Police cited Espinosa for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and not having a valid driver’s license, Rollins said.
The roadway was closed for 2 1/2 hours while the Kane County accident reconstruction team assisted with diagramming and a follow-up investigation, Rollins said.
