Meat and Potato Eatery offers comfort food, meat

McHENRY – A new food establishment opened its doors this summer for meat and potato lovers near the corner of Route 31 and Bull Valley Road in McHenry.

Meat and Potato Eatery, 400 S. Route 31, celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, two months after it officially opened to the public July 6.

“Business has been good since we opened, and we’ve gradually been getting busier,” co-manager Jody O’Farrell said.

McHenry’s new eatery offers its customers comfort foods such as burgers, chili, crispy chicken, meatloaf, potato wedges and pot roast.

“Our signature item may be our pot roast,” O’Farrell said. “People just come here for that pot roast.”

The menu also boasts plenty of dishes for non-meat lovers. Customers with a sweet tooth can get funnel fries or a turtle brownie, while vegetarians can try the eggplant Parmesan toast or the grilled three-cheese sandwich with Swiss, provolone and Monterey jack.

Meat and Potato Eatery offers dine-in, takeout and delivery. For those that dine in, the new restaurant also has a gaming room where people can play slot machines.

“Come to eat, stay and play is what we like to say here,” O’Farrell said.

Meat and Potato Eatery is owned by Ted Zatos, who also is the owner of Brunch Cafe. The new restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays.
