Elmhurst Park District opens up spring registration

ELMHURST – Spring registration begins this Saturday for the hundreds of programs and events offered by the Elmhurst Park District.

This year's slate of offerings includes a new addition – April 21 will mark the park district's first ever Mother Son Dance, according to Grant Paplauskas, communications manager for the Elmhurst Park District.

Paplauskas wrote in an email that the district wanted to offer mothers and sons the same opportunity to spend a memorable evening together that's allotted fathers and daughters during the park district's annual Father Daughter Dance.

The event costs $30 per person for Elmhurst residents and $38 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.

The district's yearly Egg Hunt and Doggie Eggstravaganza will return Saturday April 15. The event is free and participants are welcome to bring their leashed canines to hunt for dog treats.

March 31 marks the opening of the Hubat Berens Park, which includes batting cages, mini golf and a seasonal sprayground as well as play area, Paplauskas said. Additionally, the district will host its annual decor swap April 8 at the Wilder Mansion. The swap will feature slightly used and unused wedding items including vases, candles, centerpieces, shoes and guest books, according to the district's online brochure.

The city's botanical garden, the Wilder Park Conservatory, will also host a spring flower show April 8, Paplauskas wrote. Those interested in park district programming and events are encouraged to check the district's website: epd.org and online brochure. Registration for spring programs opens Feb. 18 for residents and Feb. 27 for non-residents.

A park district open house is also slated for March 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Abbey, 407 St. Charles Road, to discuss the district's comprehensive and strategic planning process, dubbed Vision 2020. According to the district's website, attendees will have an opportunity to offer input for the future of the park district.
