CRYSTAL LAKE – An all-girl high school robotics team from Crystal Lake won the first place Inspire Award at the FIRST Tech Challenge Illinois Championship last weekend.

As a result, the team, named Fruit Salad, will be one of only nine teams from Illinois competing at the Northern FTC Super Regional Tournament, which will be from March 30 through April 1 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Inspire Award is given to the team that performs well in all judging categories and is recognized as a model FIRST Tech Challenge team on and off the playing field, according to a news release.

Fruit Salad also won the Inspire Award at the Northern Illinois Regional Qualifier earlier in February, which earned it the trip to the state competition.
