To the editor:
We have lived in Wheaton for 30 years. Wheaton School District 200 has proposed a $132.5 million bond. The district has asked for unnecessary requests on bond issues including a non-essential gateway to Franklin Middle School in the late 1900s and a $600,000 football field house in 2003, which was featured in the Dec. 9, 2006, Wall Street Journal article titled Friday Night Luxe, implying that football stadiums/fields may be a luxury for public schools. These unnecessary issues were what caused the district to be included in a Chicago Tribune article titled Districts Choking On Red Ink dated March 25, 2010.
I am for providing our children with a secure, safe environment with the $83.6 million capital proposal. I do not approve the $70.9 million facilities request. I believe there are frivolous, non-essential items in this proposal, like the ridiculous “gateway” and very expensive field house.
