Local Election

1 incumbent, 2 newcomers likely to fill seats on Cary Village Board

CARY – There will be some new faces on Cary’s Village Board.

Six candidates were running to fill three open spots on the board.

Incumbent Trustee Jeff Kraus led the race with 1,603 votes, followed by challenger Jennifer Weinhammer with 1,571 votes, preliminary results show.

Challengers Christine Betz and Joe Tournier followed closely behind. Betz held 1,403 votes, while Tournier held 1,345 votes, early results showed.

Those candidates were followed by incumbent Trustee Rick Dudek with 1,246 votes and challenger Chris Naatz with 1,119 votes.

There were 8,367 total votes for the race, according to preliminary results. It was not clear how many precincts had reported as of press time.

Trustee David Chapman ran for Algonquin Township trustee and did not seek re-election on the Cary Village Board.

Candidates formed two slates while campaigning, with Kraus, Weinhammer and Tournier supporting mayoral candidate Jim Cosler; and Dudek, Betz and Naatz backing Cary Mayor Mark Kownick.
