2 incumbents likely to lose seats in Algonquin Village Board race, preliminary results show

ALGONQUIN – Two newcomers and one incumbent won seats on the Algonquin Village Board, according to preliminary results.

Six candidates were running for three seats in Tuesday’s election. Algonquin trustees are elected by voters from McHenry and Kane counties.

Challenger Laura Brehmer took the lead with 965 votes, followed by incumbent Trustee Jerry Glogowski with 877 votes and challenger Janis Jasper with 870 votes.

Longtime trustees Bob Smith and Brian Dianis followed close behind with 809 and 770 votes, respectively. Challenger Greg Ligman received 728 votes.

Preliminary results show there were 5,019 total votes for the race. Not all precincts had reported yet in McHenry County by press time.

The three challengers, all of whom live near Longmeadow Parkway, have opposed the project, while the incumbents have supported it.

Brehmer and Jasper have emphasized the need for residents to have a voice after the Longmeadow project was approved with some disapproval.

Glogowski has said he'd like to continue to make downtown a destination.
