Michael D. Leathe, 36, was arrested May 8

WHEATON – A Wheaton man has been charged with the burglary and vandalism of two churches in Wheaton.

Michael D. Leathe, 36, of the 100 block of Kensington Circle, is being held in the DuPage County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

On May 8, Wheaton police officers arrested Leathe for vandalism to Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West St., and burglary to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1753 S. Blanchard St., according to a news release from the Wheaton Police Department.

Leathe subsequently was charged with burglary, hate crime and institutional vandalism, the release stated. The investigation determined the religious institutions were specifically targeted by Leathe, according to the release.
