LEMONT – Lemont High School will take on Disney Channel's tale of star-crossed lovers and high school social circles as they perform "High School Musical" through May 13.

The musical focuses on Troy and Gabriella – characters made famous by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens – and their classmates at East High School as they deal with first love and expectations from friends and family while trying to balance class and extracurricular activities.

Based on the Disney Channel original movie written by Peter Barsocchini, "High School Musical" debuted during a Disney Theatrical Tour in 2007, according to a Lemont High School news release.

The show debuted May 11 at Lemont High School, and it will continue with performances at 7 p.m. May 12 and 13.

"High School Musical" is produced by Dave Nommensen and directed by Paula Smith. Choreography is by Jeni Donahue, with orchestral direction by Matt Doherty and vocal direction by Stephanie Cesaroni. Matt Davis leads set design and construction and serves as the backstage technical supervisor. Designers for the production include Joelle Beranek (costumes), Bob Kuper (makeup) and Sam Valone (lighting). Richard Sladek serves as the accompanist, while Megan Idell is the front-of-house manager.

Tickets are $15, and all seats in the Performing Arts Center are reserved. Those wishing to purchase tickets in advance must do so online at shawurl.com/32m2. Purchasing tickets online allows patrons to skip ticket lines the night of the show and choose their own seats, the release stated.

Pending availability, tickets may be purchased at the door, according to the release.
