DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove man has been charged with aggravated domestic battery for allegedly striking his 80-year-old mother in the face and head with an ax.
John Flick, 57, of the 4200 block of Earlston Road, is being held in the DuPage County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
On May 14, the victim’s daughter went to visit her mother for Mother’s Day. Upon arriving at the home, the daughter noticed lacerations on her mother’s face and head, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
The two women then went to the hospital to seek treatment for the victim’s injuries, the release stated. Upon seeing the woman’s injuries, hospital authorities alerted the Downers Grove Police Department, and an investigation conducted by the police led to Flick as the person allegedly responsible for the injuries to his mother.
The incident allegedly happened on the evening of May 13, when Flick returned to the home he shared with his mother and repeatedly hit her about the head and face with an ax, the release stated.
“Domestic violence can take many forms and is not confined to spousal abuse,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “The allegations in this case however, are truly sickening. The very idea that someone would attack another human being with an ax, let alone their own mother, is shocking"
Flick's next court appearance is scheduled for June 12 in front of Judge Liam Brennan.
