WAUCONDA — A rush hour collision brought traffic to a halt for an hour Monday morning along southbound Route 12 in unincorporated Wauconda.
An 18-year-old man from Carol Stream was northbound on Route 12, just north of Case Road, when he drove onto the gravel shoulder, lost control of his 2006 Mazda and drove over the grassy median into the southbound lanes of traffic, Lake County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Christopher Covelli said in an email. Covelli said it is unclear why the man traveled onto the shoulder.
The man's vehicle struck a southbound 2002 Ford, driven by a 65-year-old Wonder Lake man, and then a 22-year-old Round Lake Beach man who was driving a southbound semi-truck. Both the Carol Stream man and the Wonder Lake man were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries believed to be non-life threatening, according to Covelli's statement. The Round Lake Beach man was treated and released on the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and citations are pending for the Carol Stream man. Covelli said he withheld the drivers' identities because no one has yet been ticketed.
