BOLINGBROOK – A Will County Resistance Fair will be held in Bolingbrook on Aug. 26 with the goal of connecting residents with progressive organizations.

Will County Board member and former Bolingbrook mayoral candidate Jackie Traynere, a Democrat, and Congressman Bill Foster, D-Naperville, are hosting the event. Both have been critical of President Donald Trump and his visit to Bolingbrook in September 2016.

Traynere said the event is designed to empower people to take constructive action about the social and political issues they care about. She wanted to create a fair in Will County after seeing similar events in Chicago and around the state.

“Let’s not hide behind our computers and grumble,” Traynere said in a news release. “I believe the residents of Will County want to get involved when we identify avenues to maximize our impact. If not us, then who?”

The event will have a “science fair setting” and also will include training sessions throughout the event on topics such as grassroots organizing and how to run for office.

Traynere ran unsuccessfully against Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar in April in a close and hotly contested race. She was a Bernie Sanders delegate during the 2016 presidential primaries.

“Now more than ever, we need engaged citizens who are able to advocate for the issues that matter to them,” Foster said in the release. “This fair will allow members of our community to learn how they can create change right here in Illinois.”

The fair is free to attendees and will take place at the Bolingbrook Holiday Inn at 205 Remington Road, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
