Harvard police investigating McDonald's robbery

HARVARD – The Harvard Police Department is investigating a robbery at the McDonald's following an incident where a man threatened an employee with a hammer and demanded cash.

Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Harvard police responded to the 24-hour McDonald's at 352 S. Division St. to a report of a robbery. An initial investigation indicates a man walked in brandishing a hammer and demanded money, according to the Harvard Police Department.

The employee gave the man cash — less than $500, police said. The man then hit the counter with the hammer, hard enough to damage the counter and left on foot. No one is currently in custody and the incident is under investigation, police said.

Officials declined to comment on whether the store had security footage of the incident.

Police describe the suspect at a 25-year-old man around 6 feet tall with a thin build, wearing a blue and white baseball cap, blue shirt and khaki shorts.
