WHEATON – For those looking to give a handmade gift this Christmas, the students at Clare Woods Academy are more than happy to sell shoppers one they have made with their own hands.
From wreaths to jewelry to cards, all of the items in the newly opened The Cardinal Gift Shop are made by the students. The store opened in November at 117 N. Main St. in downtown Wheaton.
Clare Woods Academy is a private nonprofit school providing specialized educational services for students ages 6 to 21.
"All our students have either learning or behavior disabilities," said Mike Gresk, director of development for Clare Woods Academy and the mayor of Wheaton. "Many of them are on the autism spectrum."
