ELMHURST – The son of Chicago Bears Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton recently visited IC Catholic Prep in Elmhurst to talk to students about motivation and bullying.
Jarrett Payton spoke to students from IC Catholic Prep, Immaculate Conception Grade School and Visitation Catholic School at an assembly the morning of Feb. 13.
2009 IC Catholic Prep graduate Mary Kate Manion, the 2018 Chicago St. Patrick's Day Queen, also made a special guest appearance at the assembly.
The event was sponsored by the Sliva family, who has a personal connection to Payton, IC Catholic Prep spokeswoman Nancy Kerrigan D'Amore said in an email Feb. 14. Kevin Sliva is the school's head wrestling coach.
Payton told personal stories with messages of respecting others, the importance of people finding what truly motivates them, community involvement and service, and doing that little bit extra to achieve greatness, D'Amore said in the email.
