O'Connor added the scouts take down 1,100 "no parking" signs after the parade.
"It's been a hit every year," he said about the scouts' participation.
Nick Ulloa, a Glendale Heights resident and a Marine who grew up in Elmhurst, is the assistant scoutmaster for the troop, which includes about 12 members.
He said the children who attend the parade enjoy getting candy and seeing the Shriners and clowns. He added it's also an opportunity for community members to see the local groups in which they can get involved.
