Ricketts said the Cubs have accomplished the three goals he set when he took over the team: win the World Series, improve Wrigley Field and be good neighbors in Wrigleyville.
“We wanted to do something that was good for the neighborhood,” Ricketts said, adding the team raised more than $10 million for philanthropic causes in 2017.
The team also volunteers thousands of hours annually to various community initiatives, and its new clubhouse illustrates the many improvements the Cubs have made to Wrigley Field, he said.
Before the new facility was built, pinch hitters had to warm up in the clubhouse, using a hitting tee. But players could not take their swings until erecting a net and piece of wood to protect the television from batted balls, Ricketts said.
“We had the worst clubhouse in Major League Baseball, and now, a few years later, we have the best,” Ricketts said.
