Former Glen Ellyn Park District commissioner Jay Kinzler handily won the March 20 Republican primary for Illinois' 46th House District, a seat currently held by state Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park.
Kinzler received 3,767 votes, or 79.46 percent of the vote, compared to his challenger, Roger Orozco, a police officer, marine and former Board of Education member for Community Consolidated School District 93 in Bloomingdale, who received 974 votes, or 20.54 percent, according to unofficial results from the DuPage County Election Commission. Kinzler will face Conroy in the November general election.
Kinzler, of Glen Ellyn, campaigned against high taxes and railed against the recent state income tax hike implemented by the Democratic-controlled General Assembly, noting many residents are already saddled with high property taxes.
"That's really hurting a lot of families and businesses," he said previously. "[What that's] doing is it's driving people to look to move out of Illinois. We're losing good, hard-working people that helped build this state over the years. And they're people that we can't afford to lose."
The 46th District includes all of Villa Park and Glendale Heights and portions of Elmhurst, Lombard, Addison, Glen Ellyn, Oakbrook Terrace, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Wheaton and Bloomingdale.
