Before his presentation to students, Levy said he had watched the Cubs fall to the Detroit Tigers in the 1945 World Series. The Tigers won the series four games to three, and the Cubs didn't play a World Series game again until 2016.
"I was in the service, and World War II had just ended," Levy said. "I was home on furlough, and I was able to get tickets to the seventh game."
The publisher of "Go Cubs Go! Baseball's Never Give Up Story" knew Levy was a lifelong Cubs fan.
"He asked me if I would like to write the text for a children's book," Levy said. "There's another man, George Castle, who wrote the history of the Cubs in terms that children would get. I wrote it from an emotional standpoint."
As a lifelong Cubs fan, he was excited to see the Cubs capture the World Series title in 2016.
"People in Chicago have been such loyal fans," Levy said. "It was gratifying."
