WHEATON – Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 teachers will receive a 2.5-percent salary increase during the first year of a new four-year contract.
On May 9, the majority of District 200 Board of Education members approved a new contract with the Wheaton Warrenville Education Association. The association's bargaining unit represents about 1,000 teachers and other licensed members.
"The district and the WWEA’s collective bargaining teams worked diligently and responsibly to reach an agreement that both appropriately compensates our teachers and incentivizes them to enhance their teaching skills to the benefit of our students," board President Jim Vroman said in a statement. "At the same time, the terms of the new agreement are consistent with the district’s goals to maintain a balanced budget and address our major capital needs and facility projects."
In addition to the salary increase in the first year, the contract also calls for a cost of living increase of between 2.5 percent and 3.5 percent in years two through four of the contract.
“We believe that this agreement respects our profession and reflects what is best for our educators and the district," association President Bryce Cann said in a statement.
