With Cuchran around, though, the unlikely became commonplace.
Before Cuchran arrived, the Lady Broncos softball program had never been to state. Montini now has two state titles over the last three years.
This year Cuchran compiled numbers that require a double take.
The lefty slugger, the Suburban Life Player of the Year, hit .702 with 19 doubles, 16 homers, 57 runs scored and 79 runs batted in. She also drew 42 walks.
Montini coach Mike Bukovsky, who has coached three four-time wrestling state champions, a kid playing in the NFL and another who started 28 games at Ohio State, calls Cuchran the most dominant athlete he's coached in 34 years.
"Nobody has ever been able to affect a contest like she has," Bukovsky said. "Every opponent has had to make adjustments for her. Baseball and softball are such fickle sports; hitters get hot and get cold. It's amazing that she's been as steady as she has been."
