ELMHURST – Elmhurst College presented the 35th annual President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching to psychology professor Elizabeth Majka of Brookfield at the Founders’ Faculty Awards Dinner on May 11.

Majka, an assistant professor of psychology, teaches statistics, research methods, psychology and culture, according to an Elmhurst College news release.

Each year, two faculty members are selected to receive the award, which reflects a professor’s contributions to students' education. Student organizations nominate faculty members for the award, and members of the Faculty Development Committee make the final decision.

Students praised Majka for igniting their passions, creating an inclusive atmosphere in the classroom and teaching them to see science as a service, the release stated.

The other award winner was Jennifer Mather, an adjunct faculty member who has been a voice professor at Elmhurst College for 21 years, according to the release.
