A local congressional candidate just got a big endorsement.
Vice President Joe Biden announced his formal endorsement of Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville.
Underwood, a registered nurse, is the Democratic nominee running against incumbent Randy Hultgren, R-Plano, for the Illinois 14th District, which includes part of Plainfield.
“Lauren Underwood has devoted her career to helping people in her community live healthy lives,” Biden said in a news release. “I’m inspired by her commitment to public service and thankful for her work to make high-quality, affordable health care available to millions of families across the country.”
President Barack Obama also appointed Underwood to serve as a senior adviser at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The former president announced his endorsement of Underwood last month.
“For too long, my opponent has actively voted against us: From voting to strip us of our health care coverage, supporting a corporate tax break on the backs of northern Illinois families and voting against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act,” Underwood said.
