Elmhurst police to conduct October roadside safety check

ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Police Department will set up a roadside safety checkpoint on a major roadway in Elmhurst from 11:30 p.m. Oct. 19 to 3:30 a.m. Oct. 20 as part of its participation in a year-long traffic enforcement grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The goal of the grant is to save lives by reducing fatal and serious injury crashes through additional enforcement of driving under the influence and seatbelt laws, according to a city of Elmhurst website post.

As part of the grant, periodic roadside safety checkpoints are being set up throughout the year, with vehicles being stopped at a predetermined interval and checked for violations, the post stated. These checkpoints have proved to be a significant deterrent to impaired driving, according to the post.

Motorists are always encouraged to drive carefully, buckle up and not drink and drive, the post stated.
