State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, will host an environmental issues town hall meeting with the Illinois Environmental Council from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Glen Ellyn Police Department, 65 S. Park Blvd.
“To protect families right here in DuPage County, I am working with advocates to stop companies like Sterigenics from leaking dangerously high levels of cancer-causing ethylene oxide by enacting some of the strictest environmental regulations in the nation,” said Costa Howard. “Working with environmental advocates and local residents, we need to ensure that companies aren’t getting away with releasing cancer-causing chemicals into our environment.”
Costa Howard will be joined by representatives from the Illinois Environmental Council, the Citizens Utility Board, Sierra Club and DuPage’s School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) to discuss the various state and local initiatives to make Illinois a leader in green policy.
“As a co-sponsor of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, I will continue advocating for ambitious solutions to the critical challenges we face when it comes to protecting our natural resources and growing our economy,” said Costa Howard. “I’m looking forward to being joined by experts in environmental policy to discuss the steps that must be taken during the next legislative session and hear from local residents about their concerns and ideas.”
