The Bolingbrook-based Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project will host its ninth annual Day of the Immigrant event Saturday.

SSIP said it expects 15,000 people to come to the event to celebrate the contributions of suburban immigrants, take advantage of resources and services, and enjoy food and live cultural entertainment, according to a news release. The event will take place at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center, 375 W. Briarcliff Road, from noon to 11 p.m.

This will be the first year the event will feature a citizenship and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program renewal workshop, in partnership with Family Focus Aurora through the New American Initiative.

Local, state and federal dignitaries, business leaders, and faith partners will give testimonials. Mariachi Juvenil Estampas de America, the National Folkloric Ballet of Milwaukee and Linares and La Sonora Dinamita de Colombia will provide musical entertainment.

SSIP served 3,800 families last year through citizenship, DACA, Know Your Rights, parent engagement, youth development, legal consultations, leadership development and advocacy. The Day of the Immigrant is SSIP’s largest community event of the year. SSIP will also present three scholarships to local immigrant students through the annual Building the World We Need Fund, sponsored by Bolingbrook Bank & Trust, Giamanco Law Partners, Blue Green Cleaning Services and 12 Five Capital.

Su Familia Real Estate, WeatherTech and more are sponsors.
