Summer is in full swing, and families have some terrific events to choose from in the Glen Ellyn area. Best of all, these special offerings are free, or nearly free!
On Wednesday, July 19th, the Glen Ellyn Park District is hosting a free Family Fun Night at Lake Ellyn Park. From 5:30 - 7:30 pm, families can enjoy Carnival-themed rides, bounce houses, crafts, and face painting. From 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Istvan and his Imaginary Band will perform in concert. Families can bring a picnic or purchase hot dogs, chips, and beverages at the event.
Jazz in the Park provides free jazz concerts for the community, courtesy of the 16-member Glen Ellyn Jazz Ensemble. Concerts are Wednesday, July 26th at Newton Park and Wednesday, August 16th at Lake Ellyn Park, and will run from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
On Wednesday, August 9th, come see the movie “Sing!” at Newton Park on a giant inflatable movie screen! Kids’ crafts start at 8:00 pm, and the movie begins at dusk, around 8:45 pm. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic or snacks to enjoy during this free showing.
On Friday, August 18th, visit Sunset Pool in Glen Ellyn from 8:00 - 10:00 pm for their Back to School Bash for grades 6-8. The event is free, but you need your school ID to enter. A DJ will provide music, and kids can swim and play games as they celebrate the start of a new school year.
Other free or nearly free activities include the Disc Golf Course at Maryknoll Park, the $5 rock-climbing special at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, and $5 20-minute boat rentals at the last Boating in the Park (August 6th at Lake Ellyn Park from 12:00 - 4:00 pm).
