A 22-year-old man was arrested in Bolingbrook after firing a gun into the ground and at a tree in the yard of his home on North Lancaster Drive, police said.
About 3:30 p.m. Monday, officers went to the 200 block of North Lancaster Drive after receiving a report of gunshots, Bolingbrook police Lt. Anthony Columbus said. Police dispatch received two calls regarding a gunshot, he said.
When the officers arrived, they found numerous shell casings in the backyard of a residence that “were lying on top of fresh snow,” Columbus said.
The officers found Alejandro Perez, who lives on North Lancaster Drive, walking down the street near the location of the call, he said. Perez lives at the home where the shooting took place, he said.
Columbus said Perez was identified as the person who fired the gun and that ammunition was found in his pocket.
“It appears Perez fired a gun at the ground and a tree in the yard,” Columbus said.
Perez was arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a firearm owner’s identification card, unlawful possession of ammunition and disorderly conduct.
Perez was booked into the Will County jail.
On May 10, 2016, Perez pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. He was given 18 months of court supervision and ordered to complete 100 hours of public service, according to court records.
