Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate your sweetheart. But another February holiday offers a chance to shower your four-legged friends with love.
National Dog Biscuit Day, also known as International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, is annually observed on Feb. 23.
Show your furry friend a little extra love with an extra biscuit or two. Rather than store-bought, consider instead baking your own batch for the occasion using these ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center and ASPCA veterinarian-approved recipes:
Peanut Butter, Pumpkin, and Oat Treats
¼ cup peanut butter
1 cup of pure pumpkin (no spices added)
¾ cup of regular oatmeal
Combine all of the ingredients together and then mold them into shapes. Place in the fridge for up to two hours and then give to your dogs to enjoy when chilled.
1 can of dog food (your dog’s preference)
¼ cup of shredded raw carrots
2-3 raw green beans – chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread canned dog food evenly on parchment paper on an oven-safe baking sheet. Bake for 20-40 minutes, or until crispy. The time will vary depending on the canned food of your choice. Once crispy, remove the tray from the oven and allow to cool. Cut crispy canned food into triangles resembling “chips”. Then layer the shredded carrots, chopped green beans and frozen blueberries on top.
If you are looking for an opportunity to celebrate your favorite canine, make sure to marked National Dog Biscuit Day on the calendar.
